Riding it smooth – the Royal Enfield Himalayan

The next big thing from Royal Enfield’s stable would be the ‘badass’ Himalayan. The bike is expected to hit Indian markets by November this year. With just two months to launch, the internet is swarming with news and gossips about the upcoming lean machine.

Based on latest information, the Himalayan’s figures would be way above the Continental GT. The 410cc Himalayan would be powered by a single-cylinder motor that would produce over 28 PS of power and over 32 Nm of torque. The motor can revv happily up to 6,500 – 7,000 RPM.

The chassis is an all-new double cradle frame developed by Harris Performance. The sub-frame has been reinforced to increase luggage capability. The Himalayan is expected to get a new instrument cluster with digital display, altitude meter, compass, counter balancer to minimize vibrations and a new beak at the front in line with super-bikes worldwide.

Since the Indian government is looking to make ABS mandatory on two-wheelers, Royal Enfield is evaluating the feasibility of adding the feature to its upcoming bikes.

The company is taking a gamble on the volume and pricing it at around Rs. 1.65 – 1.85 lakhs – significantly lower than existing 500cc models.

Royal Enfield is also expected to come out with a more powerful 750cc twin-cylinder motor that would supply 50 BHP of power. This new motor is expected to be the most refined Royal Enfield engine ever built. The beast of an engine would make full use of the massive carburetors and the oil cooler would keep engine heating under check. The result would me a more revv happy motor that’ll ensure you have more fun on those road trips.
