One teacher and a suspect have been reported dead, and two students have reportedly been airlifted to a local hospital, though the nature of their injuries remains unknown, according to local news affiliate NBC LA.
Police did not engage the shooter, who appeared to have taken his own life, local news affiliate CBS Los Angeles reported.
"We believe this to be a murder suicide," San Bernardino Chief of Police Jarrod Burguan said on Twitter, adding that the shooting appeared to have happened in a classroom.
Multiple sources have pointed to domestic violence as the possible motive for the shooting.
The school has been declared safe, and the children have been transferred away from the site.
The county's fire department said that they had responded to multiple gunshot wounds, while police Police said that officers were headed to the scene, according to the departments' official Twitter accounts.
A nearby California state university has ordered a shelter-in-place, and firefighters have created a triage area to access and treat the wounded, NBC Southern California reported.
Local news outlets are reporting that parents of students at a Cal State's nearby San Bernardino campus can reunite with their children with a photo ID.
