Court directs Uttarakhand EVMs to be taken in judicial custody

The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the judicial magistrate of Vikasnagar (Dehradun) to seal and seize the EVMs that were used for the constituency in assembly polls.

The direction was issued after Navprabhat, former cabinet minister from Congress party, alleged tampering and manipulation of the EVMs.

The court has also issued notices to the Election Commission of India, the state election commission, the chief secretary along with the BJP candidate Munna Singh Chauhan who won from the constituency.

In the petition filed, Navprabhat claimed that the EVM used in Vikasnagar was tampered with and manipulated.

The Election Commission, however, has maintained his stand that the machines cannot be tampered with.
