Samsung launched the Gear S3 in India today and – wait for it - it is iOS compatible. This will be a first for Samsung considering both companies have been competing and sparring over their premium smartphones. This also gives Apple consumers a choice, choice to choose a Samsung smartwatch to go with their iPhones!

The newest update for its flagship smartwatch-the Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 smartwatch has the iOS app, meaning the Gear series can now be used by iOS users too. And it is not just the Gear S3 which is receiving the new update but for the whole Gear series as well as the Gear Fit. Both devices will now be able to show notifications from the iPhone and send health data to the S Health service.

Samsung has released the Gear S3 in two versions, the Classic and the Frontier. The Classic version is a minimalistic design and has a stainless steel body with circular buttons next to the popular rotating bezel. It is made up of 46mm steel case that weighs 57g. It also comes with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi feature.

The Frontier Gear S3 is made for fitness enthusiasts and carries a sporty look and is has a slightly bigger, raised bezel with rectangular textured buttons and comes with silicon straps. It has all the sensors like Accelerometer, Gyro, Barometer, HRM. It also weighs a bit heavier than the classic version. It comes with a Bluetooth or a standalone LTE.

Samsung claims that the battery lasts up to four days on a single charge, the Gear S3 has built in speakers, has Bluetooth, dual core 1.0 GHz, AMOLED display, 4GB internal memory, comes with an IP68 water and dust resistant certification and can withstand very high and very low temperatures, shock, dust and extreme vibrations, a feature missing with the Apple smart watches. The new Gear S app is available at the iOS app store for free.
