Taiwanese company, ASUS, is looking to make a major splash in the Laptop segment in India as the company hopes to become the leader by capturing 10% market share by next year.

The laptop market is widely different from the smartphone market in India, mainly due to the huge difference between the numbers of players in each segment, smartphone market is majorly crowded whereas there are only a few serious players like HP, Dell, Lenovo in the laptop market. In India, ASUS currently has a market share of about 2% in the smartphone segment and 7% market share in the laptop segment.

While India is the biggest market for smartphones, PC penetration is still relatively slow but ASUS believes they are much stronger in the segment and that there is huge potential for laptops in the country. Peter Chang, Country Manager, India said, “Indian consumers directly go for smartphones as of now but as soon as they feel the need for more productivity and bigger screen, they will eventually move to laptops, which is why we think this is the right time to invest into this segment in India”.

ASUS today launched two new laptops, VivoBook S15 and ZenBook UX430 in India. Both new laptops, ASUS VivoBook S15 and ZenBook UX430, belong to the premium laptop segment with starting prices of Rs. 59,990 and Rs. 74,990 for the base variants, respectively. The most talked about feature of the two laptops is its ‘NanoEdge display’, which is essentially almost a bezel-less display giving a screen-to-body ratio of about 80 percent.

ASUS VivoBook S15 a 15.6-inch laptop which features 17.9mm profile and weighs 1.7 kg. It has a metallic Icicle Gold finish, sports a NanoEdge display with a 7.8mm-slim bezel, it is powered by up to 8th Generation Intel® Core i7 processor with up to 16GB DDR4 memory and feature NVIDIA® MX150 graphics.

It weighs 1.25kg, comes with Full HD 14” Windows 10, features NanoEdge bezel, ZenBook UX430 is powered by up to Intel 8th Generation Core i7 processor with the main memory of 16GB DDR4 (2133MHz) and up to 512 GB Storage.

Apart from performance related features, ASUS has tried hard to get the attention of the new generation by putting in extra effort on the design front by making the laptops sleek and portable.

The Asus VivoBook S15 will be available from October 1 across their offline and online channels. Well with the ever growing competition in the smartphone market in India , it is certain that with fewer competitions, laptop market could prove a lot more lucrative for a company such as ASUS, which is mainly a notebook and laptop manufacturers.
