The US's national debt crosses a new milestone. The national debt crossed the $20 trillion mark for the first time on Friday after President Donald Trump signed into law a bill that suspends the debt ceiling until December 8.
North Korea gets hit with more sanctions. Monday evening, the United Nations Security Council announced a ban on the country's textile exports and capped its imports of crude oil, Reuters says.
UK inflation heats up. Consumer prices rose 2.9% year-over-year in August, making for the quickest pace since Brexit, data released on Tuesday by the Office for National Statistics showed.
Apple's holding a launch event. Analysts are expecting the tech giant to announce three new iPhones, a new version of the Apple Watch, an upgraded Apple TV, and new software for iPhones and iPads, among other things.
Citigroup says trading revenues are going to plunge in Q3. Speaking at an investor conference on Monday, Chief Financial Officer John Gerspach said he expects third-quarter markets revenue to be about 15% below a year ago, Reuters says.
BP files for an IPO of its US pipeline assets. BP Midstream Partners LP plans to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "BPMP," the company said in a regulatory filing on Monday.
Tesla is eliminating dozens of positions at SolarCity. SolarCity is phasing out 63 more jobs at its Roseville facility, in addition to the headcount reduction of 141 announced last month, according to documents the company filed with the California Employment Development Department.
Amazon is ramping up hiring in China. The ecommerce behemoth is hiring for hundreds of China-based positions as it looks to expand further into Asia, according to job listings on both the company's website and LinkedIn.
Stock markets around the world are higher. Japan's Nikkei (+1.18%) led the advance in Asia and Germany's DAX (+0.56%) is out front in Europe. The S&P 500 is set to open up 0.12% near 2,491.
US economic data trickles out. JOLTS Job Openings will cross the wires at 10 a.m. ET. The US 10-year yield is higher by 2 basis points at 2.15%.
