You would forgive an NFL player if they decided to take some time off from working out at the end of a 15-year career, but James Harrison was never most players.

Harrison announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday morning with a post on Instagram.

"I've missed way too much for way too long...and I'm done," the caption read. "Many thanks to my family, coaches, the fans, and everyone who played a role in my football life. #2ndAndFinalRetirement #HarrisonFamilyValues #BlessedAndHighlyFavored #GodsPlan "

Harrison, who played most of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, briefly retired in 2014. He signed with the New England Patriots at the end of the 2017 season for their playoff run before announcing his latest retirement.

And what did Harrison do with his newly found free time? He immediately went to the gym.

About two hours after Harrison's retirement announcement on Instagram, he posted several videos of himself working out at the gym, while also declaring that "Monday is legs day!"

Harrison is a five-time Pro Bowler, a two-time member of the All-Pro team, and the NFL's 2008 Defensive Player of the Year, but he is also well known for the efforts he went to to keep his body in top form, including his intense, and often unorthodox, workout routines.

By the end of Harrison's career, he was spending $300,000 a year to fly out specialists to tend to his body, including an acupuncturist, a dry needlist, three massage therapists, two chiropractors, and a person who does cupping.

But it was the workouts that left people dumbfounded. For example, in the video above, Harrison is not only lifting a barbell with weights, but he also has a cable with more weights attached to his belt.

Previously, we saw that they don't make dumbbells big enough for Harrison's one-armed shoulder presses.

And there were pull-ups with added weight because his 250 pounds were not challenging enough
