55% students placed after first phase of campus placement at IIT Madras

The first phase of placement season at IIT Madras is over and it has some real good news. More than 55% of the final year IIT Madras students have been offered jobs in the first phase of the placement process for 2015-16.

According to the institute, 1,294 students registered this time compared with 1,361 a year ago.
The number of companies visiting the campus this season was higher at 240 compared with 175 companies a year ago.

The jobs came from varied sectors, education, PSU, research & development, analytics, consulting and finance. IT was a slow recruiter this time.

"This year, only 14% of students got placed in the IT companies compared with 28% last year," a spokesperson for the institute told ET.
