Almost 4 in 10 Indian employees believe their boss has room for improvement A new research finds that almost 4 in 10 of Indian employees (38 per cent) believe they could do their boss’s job better. In addition, over a quarter of workers (26%) thought that their boss should not be in a leadership role, states a new research from CareerBuilder India. However, the majority of workers think their boss is doing an above-average job. When asked to evaluate their bosses’ performance, 7 in 10 of Indian workers (70%) say their manager deserves an “A” or a “B” while only 7% would assign a “D” or “F” according to a new CareerBuilder India survey of 1019 employees across India.

When asked with the employees which areas of their bosses leadership and management style needed the most improvement, recognition of employees’ good work (57%) topped the list by workers. Other areas where bosses aren’t performing up to par include: 54% of the bosses have compromising attitude towards their employees, 50% treat their employees equally or unbiased. It has also been seen 50% of the bosses are able to take the constructive feedback positively, 42% of the bosses behave professionally in the work environment, 37% of the bosses have apt Communication style. The survey also shows 29% of the bosses actually stand up in support of their employees, 25% of the bosses are competent to deal with the work and 21% of the bosses are there for their employees.

In addition to this, when asked to name their boss’ greatest strengths, 62 per cent of employees thought that their professionalism in work environment was cited most. Other above average behaviors include: Recognition of employees’ good work: 59% of the bosses actually take out time to boost the morale of their employees by giving them positive feedbacks. 58% of the bosses have appropriate effective communication skills. The respondents replied that 55% of the bosses have decent attitude towards employees, 51% of the bosses have ability to the take the constructive feedback from the employees, 49% of the bosses behave professionally in the working environment. It has also been seen that 47% of the bosses are available there for their employees, 47% of the bosses are competent to deal with the work and 34% of the bosses actually stand up for their employees.

Premlesh Machama, Managing Director of CareerBuilder India said “Managers are often the ones assessing employee performance, but it’s just as important for managers to solicit regular feedback from employees regarding their own performance, he further added that the best managers make an effort to understand what their employees need from them in order to do their jobs better and work to eliminate any obstacles that may be getting in the way of employees’ success.”

This survey was conducted among 1019 adults with decision making influence for hiring staff in the India. The interviews were conducted online by Redshift Research in March & April 2015 using an email invitation and an online survey. Results of any sample are subject to sampling variation. The magnitude of the variation is measurable and is affected by the number of interviews and the level of the percentages expressing the results. In this particular study, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus, by more than 3.1 percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the universe represented by the sample.
