Bengaluru Protests: Cauvery violence hits Amazon, Flipkart; IT companies left worried

Several Bengaluru-based companies advised employees to work from home on Tuesday as the protests against Supreme Court order on the sharing of Cauvery waters with Tamil Nadu went out of hand in India’s Silicon Valley.
Companies likeAmazon and Flipkart said their operations had been affected majorly by the protests in the IT hub. While, for Amazon, the delivery of the products got temporarily impacted, Flipkart said the safety of their delivery staff is priority and that they will mitigate all customer impact by keeping them informed about expected delays.
Meanwhile, Indian IT companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Cognizant were also hit by the protests. They declared a day’s off on Monday as the violence escalated.
Industry body Assocham revealed that Karnataka, especiallyBengaluru , is estimated to have suffered losses worth Rs. 22,000 to 25,000 crore as a result of the Cauvery water row.
Protesters were seen vandalizing shops, and setting Tamil Nadu registered buses and trucks on fire. The situation turned grave on the ground when two persons were killed recently during the protests.
