Times have changed and so has the utility of a suit. Over the years, it has evolved from something that men once considered a wardrobe essential to an ensemble that is donned only on special occasions.

Earlier, the closet of every man was lined with suits that they’d wear to work everyday (pretty much like a uniform), so much so, there were quips equating a man to the suit he wore, and how “the suit maketh the man.”

But now, far fewer men reach for a suit every morning.

Today, when a man decides to wear a suit, he does so with a purpose - to look sharp, polished and sophisticated.

So with that as the end goal, it is essential to have that standout suit and Business Insider spoke to designer Ashish Soni to get some insights for our readers as to what makes a good suit and why men need to invest in one.

This is what he had to say-

Dear men, this is why you should invest
in a suit
“Firstly, one needs to realise that there will always be “economical” options aplenty, but to ensure you have an ensemble that defines them and one that will last you for a while, then invariably a thing of that quality will require investment. Don’t shy away from that.

Remember, when a suit is a mark of a special occasion or an important event, the tailoring has to be impeccable and of supreme quality. It is, after all, about the details.

There are many details that go into making the perfect suit, but it all boils down to one primary aspect: a good suit should be tailored to fit. It is imperative for you to feel comfortable in the suit and it should definitely not restrict your movements, rather it should move with you while enhancing your silhouette. Even with the plethora of options with fabrics, silhouettes, your choices of elements within a suit can take you from being “that business guy” to “that interesting, confident, and creative man”.

The way the suit falls on the shoulder, how it fits the waist, the length of sleeve - everything plays in on the fitting of the suit. And while there are some great economical options out there, the finesse a bespoke suit can bring is unmatched and inimitable.

The finer details must not be neglected when choosing a suit. From lapels to pocket squares, each part of a suit also needs to be thoughtfully considered to bring together that perfect look that matches your attitude and personality.

With suits becoming such a statement wardrobe piece for men today, I truly believe that it is one item that needs to be invested in; and a man who appreciates the return on the investment, knows that when he does choose to wear a suit, the impression he makes is going to be worth every penny.”
