The Environmental Protection Agency announced that Volkswagen installed its emissions test cheating-defeat device on cars equipped with the company's 3.0-liter, V6 diesel engines.

The scandal, which first broke in September, involved VW's admission that it cheated US emissions standards by installing cheat software on its 2.0 liter TDI engines.

Although it was initially believed the defeat device was isolated to only the 2.0 liter engines, further EPA testing found that some models equipped with the larger 3.0 liter engines were also equipped with the software.

According to the EPA, cars affected by the latest notice of violation include diesel versions of the:

  • 2014 VW Touareg
  • 2015 Porsche Cayenne
  • 2016 Audi A6 Quattro,
  • 2016 Audi A7 Quattro
  • 2016 Audi A8,
  • 2016 Audi A8L
  • 2016 Audi Q5

The EPA indicated that the models featured in the announcement are only the ones that have completed and failed its tesing. The agency said on a call with the media that its testing is still ongoing. As a result, it is possible more models will be added to the list.
