Customers who ordered Google's new Pixel smartphone from the Google store may have to wait longer than they thought to get it.

Google Pixel customers who ordered directly from the Google store will have to wait longer than they expected to get their hands on it. The company is giving affected customers $50 (£41) to spend on the Google Play Store.

Delays could be extended into December, according to posts from affected customers on an Android Central forum. Google took began taking orders on October 4.

Business Insider has reached out to the company to find out how many customers have been affected, we have not yet heard back.

In an email to those affected, Google wrote: "it's going to take a little longer for you to receive your package than we expected ... we're so sorry".

In a statement, Google said "frankly pre-order demand has exceeded our expectations. We're working to restock our inventory as soon as possible", but a spokesperson blamed the delivery delays on "a shipment glitch that has since been resolved", TechCrunch reported.

The Pixel XL is currently listed as out of stock on the Google store in all three colours, while the Pixel only has the "quite black" version in stock. The only UK retailer selling the Pixel - Carphone Warehouse - has both models available apart from "really blue" which is not an option at all on the site.
