According to Nokia's MBiT Index study, India's 3G traffic saw a whopping 85% traffic growth in 2015. This points to a growing smartphone adoption and multimedia services. These factors would boost traffic further as 4G LTE networks are rolled out across the country. "3G will remain prime engine to drive data in the coming years. We'll soon see widespread 4G acceptance in select Tier I cities. India will be a heterogenous mix of 2G, 3G and 4G," Amit Marwah, Head of Technology, India, Nokia said.

Basically, India's using a lot of 3G, watching a lot of internet video content, and is glued to social media.
