Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic are overwhelming favorites to win the US Open
Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic are such heavy favorites to win the U.S. Open that they actually have a better chance to win the tournament than all of their competitors combined.
According to the model at FiveThirtyEight that simulates the remaining matches in the tournament thousands of times, Djokovic has a whopping 59% chance to be crowned champion. On the women's side, Williams is not far behind at 58%.
With the first round complete, there are still 64 players left in both the men's and women's draws. And yet, if we use 5% as the cutoff, there are only eight players (four on each side) that have a legit shot to win, with Andy Murray as the only other player with more than an 8% shot.
