The South China Sea (SCS) award by the United Nations tribunal has rubbished China's historical claims regarding the "nine-dash line", and this could mean well for India.

The long-standing India-China territorial dispute in Arunachal Pradesh could finally be solved thanks to this verdict, and looks like the judgment would be in the favour of India.

For a long time now, China has been claiming Arunachal, particularly Tawang, as southern Tibet, giving birth to the border conflict between the neighbouring nations.

However, when the United Nations tribunal came out with the SCS award, it indisputably rubbished Chinese claims on the famed "nine-dash line".

"The tribunal concluded that, to the extent China had historic (sic) rights to resources in the waters of the South China Sea, such rights were extinguished to the extent they were incompatible with the exclusive economic zones provided for in the (UN) convention... Tribunal concluded that there was no legal basis for China to claim historic (sic) rights to resources within the sea areas falling within the 'nine-dash line'," said the verdict.
