Chicago: The unconstructed jacket

Chicago: The unconstructed jacket

Summer calls for an unrestricted, lightweight all-purpose jacket. And a wool, silk, linen blend jacket with minimal canvassing and no lining offers unparalleled comfort and breathability. Molly Cross, manager and lead stylist for Knot Standard Chicago, says this navy deconstructed windowpane blazer, worn with cream trousers, is a great look that has been generating a lot of interest in the Windy City. It's perfect for a day at the office — and can transition perfectly to afternoon drinks or sailing on Lake Michigan.

Houston: The linen shirt

Houston: The linen shirt

Lindsay Singletary, showroom manager and stylist for Knot Standard Houston, says
a white linen shirt is a must for the hotter months and should be a staple piece in men's wardrobes. Casual, yet light and airy, it's a favorite among Knot Standard's clients nationwide — but it's especially popular in the Houston heat. Linen is so versatile it can be rolled in a short sleeve and worn for late afternoon cocktails at the golf club, or a more proper button-down for those steamy nights out.

New York: The cotton chino

New York: The cotton chino

Lewis Malivanek, creative director at Knot Standard says the most versatile item of clothing a guy can own this summer is a pair of custom cotton chinos. He suggests pairing chinos with t-shirts, button ups, polos, and even blazers. Whether you are heading out to the Hamptons or hanging out on a rooftop in Manhattan, this fashion staple looks great with espadrilles and a lightweight polo shirt, or dressed up with a shirt and a Neapolitan blazer. Malivanek suggests a pair in a lighter color, such as cream, taupe, or sand to stand out from the crowd.

Austin: The polo shirt

Austin: The polo shirt

A crisp polo matching with tailored shorts says sophistication and elegance — especially a custom polo, according to Liz Brown, head stylist at Knot Standard Austin. A lightweight cotton and silk polo in navy or chocolate will get plenty of use this season if you're going to the Blues on the Green in Austin, or a pool and sunset drinks.

Washington, DC: The linen blazer

Washington, DC: The linen blazer

Nick Jerome, showroom manager for Knot Standard DC, says the city's dress code makes a great blazer essential for summer in Washington. Whether it’s a race weekend in horse country, or a cruise past the Georgetown waterfront, a linen blazer will turn heads and keep you cool. A lighter blue or grey offers the ultimate flexibility, pairing equally well with jeans, trousers, or shorts.

Dallas: The upscale short

Dallas: The upscale short

New from Knot Standard this season are custom shorts in a range of cotton, seersucker, linen, and lightweight wool. Cuffed shorts worn just above the knee with espadrilles or loafers keeps a relaxed look sharp. If you want a more functional pair of shorts, Lakan Foster, manager and senior stylist at Knot Standard Dallas, suggests creating shorts with deep pockets — perfect for a day on the golf course in Dallas.

San Francisco: The trench coat

San Francisco: The trench coat

The famously unpredictable weather in this city jumps from chilly fog to blinding sun so quickly that layering is key, says Jocelyn Berry, senior stylist for Knot Standard San Francisco. A custom light wool or cotton trench coat in timeless colors like navy, beige, or green will keep you warm and dry during the windiest months on the Bay. Make sure you are prepared with one for the San Francisco Jazz Festival or the Noe Valley Wine Walk.
