There's a simple way to change your Pokemon in the middle of a Pokemon Go battle

Gym battles are the least intuitive part of "Pokémon Go." It wasn't until my fourth battle that I learned I'm supposed to tap to attack, hold down on my Pokémon to activate a special move, or swipe to the side to dodge.

And until Tuesday, I had no idea how to switch Pokémon in the middle of a battle. Reddit user kial trelis taught me - and apparently much of the Silph Road subreddit - how. Just swipe up!

Here's a breakdown of how to do it battle:

My Tangela won't last long. BUT I can swap it out for a different Pokémon.

Simply swipe up from the screen or tap on the button with the arrows underneath "run."

My Pinsir is a little stronger. Maybe that will fare better.

Some Pokémon have type advantage over others, so it's better to use a Pokémon with a fire-type move against an ice-type Pokémon, or an electric-type Pokémon against a rock-type one. In this battle, I quickly learned that Pinsir's normal-type Vice Grip attack was weak against Dragonite's Dragon type.

And sometimes switching Pokémon is useful because you just need to bring out one that can pack a strong wallop to take your opponent down.

So if you're battling, try changing your Pokémon in the middle of a battle and see if you can work it into your strategy. All you need to do is swipe up.
