Despite the recent controversy surrounding the semi-autonomous features in Tesla's cars, they can be helpful when used properly.
A video posted to Reddit on Wednesday shows an owner of a Tesla Model X using the car's "summon" feature - which allows it to back out of a garage or parking space without assistance from a human driver - to prompt the car to drive out of a large puddle.
The post is titled "Tesla's Summon feature was very useful today..." and the user who uploaded the video, who uses the Reddit handle "billbucket," noted the feature allowed him to "park where no one else was willing."
Tesla tweeted a link to the post on Thursday.
The post comes after a driver crashed a Model S into a fire truck in California on Monday while reportedly driving in the car's semi-autonomous Autopilot mode. The incident illustrated the tension that some car companies and their customers face over features that can help cars drive with limited assistance in some situations, but don't allow them to qualify as fully autonomous.
While car companies and experts insist self-driving cars will be much safer than those with human drivers, accidents involving autonomous or semi-autonomous features will likely continue to attract attention, scare potential customers, and possibly make it more difficult for auto companies to get the necessary regulatory approval for self-driving cars to become a reality.
