Michelle Obama's style usually earns her rave reviews.

But legendary designer Vivienne Westwood recently slammed the first lady's wardrobe choices.

When Eric Wilson at the New York Times asked Westwood about Obama, she had a few choice words.

"Don't talk about her. It's dreadful what she wears," Westwood said.

"What?" Wilson asked.

Westwood explained:

"I don’t want to talk about it. Really, I can’t. She’s a very nice looking lady, but it’s a nonstarter regarding clothes that suit her. Jackie Kennedy was a different matter altogether. It just has to suit her and be something that makes a human being more glamorous. That’s what fashion is there for. It’s there to help, not just to make you look more conservative."

Obama was also criticized by the fashion industry in January for reportedly having dozens of designers submit proposals for her Inaugural ball gown.

"Mrs. Obama isn’t an indulged starlet primping for the Oscars, nor should she behave like one," wrote Bridget Foley, executive editor of Women's Wear Daily. "Women everywhere have big events for which they select a single dress in advance of the moment."
