A former Verizon Media Group executive is joining Goldman Sachs as chief technology officer as the Wall Street firm overhauls its tech division for the future.

Atte Lahtiranta replaces John Madsen and will work closely with the firm's co-chief information officer George Lee, according to a Thursday memo seen by Business Insider.

Lahtiranta, who comes on board Goldman as a partner, was formerly chief technology at Verizon Media Group (previously known as Oath).

He was formerly a senior fellow and architect at Yahoo, and also held technology leadership roles at ShopAdvisor and Nokia.

Goldman's co-chief information officer Elisha Wiesel is retiring from Goldman, according to a separate memo, and will be replaced by former Amazon Web Services executive Marco Argenti.

Marty Chavez, the bank's technology evangelist and cohead of the securities division, also said last week will retire at the end of the year.
