  • Facebook has officially announced the name for its corporate entity that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus.

On October 28, 2021 Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg announced that the tech giant is changing its corporate name to ‘Meta.’ The company’s new name refers to the 'metaverse,' which is its new venture in the shared augmented reality and virtual world environments space.

In his keynote speech, Zuckerberg mentioned that the metaverse will be a social, 3D virtual space where you can share immersive experiences with other people, even when you can’t be together in person - and do things together you couldn’t do in the physical world.

Zuckerberg also unveiled a new logo and color to accompany its new company brand. The logo is treated in a blue gradient and is designed to be experienced in 3D. Sharing his vision behind donning this new identity, he said, “Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company, and I want to anchor our work and identity on what we're building toward.”
