World No Tobacco Day: How brands are motivating smokers to quit

Brands urge people to stub it out
  • According to WHO, over six million people lose their lives each year due to tobacco-related ailments and the figure is said to rise to more than eight million per year by the year 2030.
  • This year on World No Tobacco Day, brands are raising awareness about the many harmful effects of tobacco use and urging the audience to live a healthier lifestyle.
May 31st is observed as World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) every year, which is a commemoration of an official public health campaign by the World Health Organization. Brands across the world unite today to nudge smokers to quit by focusing on the long-term health benefits.

According to WHO, this yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations. Every year World No Tobacco is observed with a different theme; this year, the theme of World no Tobacco Day is “Commit to quit.”

This year, as we deal with a global pandemic, it is even more crucial to remind our loved ones who are addicted to smoking to adopt a healthier lifestyle and help them take charge of their own life. Smokers have up to a 50% higher risk of developing severe disease and death from COVID-19. It is not only harmful to those who consume it directly but those who live with people who smoke are also at risk of developing pathologies related to cigarettes!

So to help out those struggling with tobacco addiction, from showing graphic images of the damage caused by smoking to suggesting replacement techniques - Indian brands have done it all this year.
