Rob Goldman, most recently Facebook's VP of Ads, announced on Twitter Tuesday that he's leaving the company.

Goldman was one of the company's top-ranking advertising executives. He was at Facebook for more than seven years and was known for being a staunch defender on Twitter of the Facebook cause.

Goldman's departure follows Facebook quietly shuffling its top sales execs earlier this year, and overhauling its Ads and Business Platform (ABP) team this summer. The team was combined under longtime Facebook exec Dan Levy, who was previously Facebook's VP of small business and was promoted to VP of product on ads, and eventually all of business product.

Goldman was supposed to move on to another role in the company, Facebook had said. Business Insider asked Facebook for comment on his departure and will update the story if the company responds.
