Akshay Kumar wins the National Award for best actor; 'Neerja' wins best film

The actor was announced the winner of the National Film Award for Best Actor for his role as Captain Rustom Pawri in the semi-autobiographical movie, based on the story of Naval Officer K. M. Nanavati.

Sonam Kapoor's critically acclaimed 'Neerja,' based on the life and death of braveheart airhostess Neerja Bhanot was honoured with the Best Film Award.
These are the 64th National Film Awards, and the jury was headed by director Priyadarshan.

The awards were held at the National Media Centre, where Ajay Devgn's 'Shivaay' also won the award for Best Special Effects.
