Smart displays can be a handy tool for any room in your house. But if you don't want to shell out for a large expensive smart display like the Echo Show or the Lenovo Smart Display, you may want to check out the smaller and cheaper Echo Show 5. It typically costs $89.99, but Amazon has it on sale for $64.99.

The Echo Show 5's small 5-inch screen adds a visual element to the Alexa experience. It can display upcoming events and count down timers on your screen - the timer is especially helpful for cooking. As you're listening to CNBC's and NPR's flash briefings, for example, you might see accompanying photos and visual aids. There are even cute animations and illustrations that come with your weather report.

You can also use the Show 5 to watch videos via Hulu and YouTube (on the built-in browsers), though the screen is a bit small for that. You can play music via Spotify, Apple Music, and other services that Alexa is compatible with. The audio isn't great, but it's not terrible, and you'll be able to see the lyrics alongside the song that's playing. And if you've got smart-home devices, you can use the Show's screen to control them.
