- Ann Curry, the former co-host of NBC's "Today" show, said that she was not surprised by the sexual misconduct allegations against her former colleague, longtime "Today" host Matt Lauer.
- Curry said there was a "climate of verbal harassment" at the morning show, but would not say whether Lauer harassed her personally.
Ann Curry, the former co-host of NBC's "Today" show, said she was not surprised by the sexual misconduct allegations against her former colleague, longtime "Today" host Matt Lauer.
Curry, who was pushed off the morning show in 2012, told "CBS This Morning" on Wednesday that there was a "climate of verbal harassment" at the NBC show.
"I am not surprised by the allegations," she said. "I would be surprised if many women did not understand that there was a climate of verbal harassment that existed. I think it would be surprising if someone said they didn't see that."
But Curry would not say whether she knew if Lauer, specifically, was engaged in inappropriate conduct, and did not say whether Lauer, specifically, had abused his power or harassed her personally. Lauer was fired from NBC in November after multiple women alleged that he had harassed or assaulted them.
In his 2014 book, "Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV," journalist Brian Stelter wrote that Curry "felt that the boys' club atmosphere behind the scenes at Today undermined her from the start, and she told friends that her final months were a form of professional torture."
On October 19, 2017, Curry tweeted without explanation "#metoo" in reference to the movement of women outing sexual harassers in various industries.
