Apple is going to make a record-breaking number of new iPhones this year

Apple is preparing its suppliers to produce between 85 and 90 million units of its next generation iPhone before the year is over, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.

That's a record number for Apple. Last year, the company ordered suppliers to produce between 70 and 80 million units in the initial production run of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the report says.

The Journal is also re-iterating some other rumors we've heard about Apple's next iPhone, which people are expecting to be called the iPhone 6S.

The phone is expected to come with a Force Touch screen, which means your iPhone will be able to sense how hard you're pressing on the display in addition to just detecting where you're pressing. The Apple Watch already has this technology built into its screen.

Apple is also considering adding a fourth color option for the iPhone, according to the Journal. This comes after the publication reported in March that Apple was testing a pink color choice for the iPhone.

The next iPhone will also come in the same size options as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus - i.e. one will have a 4.7-inch screen while the other will have a 5.5-inch display.

Apple typically releases its new iPhones in September, so there's a strong chance we'll see the real thing next month. Based on various rumors and leaks, it sounds like this will be an incremental update rather than a major change. The overall design is expected to remain the same, although some reports have suggested that it could be ever so slightly thicker than the iPhone 6.
