It was only yesterday that the Internet was abuzz with news of Baba Ramdev’s new ‘Swadeshi Samriddhi’ SIM cards with value-for-money deals tied in.

Well, that’s not entirely true. Patanjali isn’t taking on Jio or any other telco with its Rs 144 plan, which was speculated since it would undercut a lot of existing options in the market.

In an official press release, Patanjali clarified that the Rs 144 BSNL plan, along with 2GB of data and 100 free SMS a day is only limited to the employees of the company. So, the company has no plans of entering the telecom foray, it’s only looking out for its employees.

The press release also resolves that the SIM cards are being launched under the company’s ‘Swadeshi’ scheme. In effect, it’s an internal tie up that’s in the spirit of using products and services that are from India, and BSNL is an Indian telecom company.
