Boeing just announced a major leadership shuffle for its troubled 737 Max team, and the head of the program is out

The head of Boeing's 737 program, Eric Lindblad, is set to retire, Boeing announced Thursday afternoon.

The 34-year Boeing executive has been in the post for about a year. His resignation will trigger a leadership shakeup for both the 737 program and the proposed new mid-range aircraft, also referred to as the "New Midsize Airplane," or "NMA," that Boeing is developing to replace the aging 757.

Lindblad took over the 737 program last year as Boeing delivered orders of its highly anticipated next generation of the venerable 737, the 737 Max.

According to Bloomberg, the retirement is unrelated to the crisis at Boeing caused by two deadly crashes involving the 737 Max aircraft and the worldwide grounding of the plane.

Boeing's single-aisle program, which includes the 737 and the NMA, will be run by Mark Jenks, Bloomberg reported.
