According to the ACKO report, from 2012 to 2021, vehicle thefts increased in Delhi by 103 percent compared to the increase in vehicular population. Around 100,000 cars are stolen every year – that comes to around 274 per day.

India’s capital Delhi is on the top when it comes to vehicle theft cases. It accounts for more than 56 percent of cases in India. While Bengaluru witnesses 9 percent of vehicle theft, followed by 5 percent in Chennai.

Second-hand car markets, lack of parking space, and even close proximity to borders of other states are some of the major reasons that are responsible for the increase in vehicle theft in Delhi.

From 2011-2020, more than 3 lakh vehicles were stolen in the national capital.Rohini, Bhajanpura, Uttam Nagar, Sector 12 Noida, South City I- Gurugram, Dayalpur, and Sultanpuri are the most prone areas in Delhi for vehicle theft.

Car thieves have an eye on cars with long delivery times or in great demand. Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Swift are top among the most cars stolen, followed by Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Santro, Honda City and Hyundai i10.

According to the report analysis, white-colored cars are the most stolen cars in the city.

Not only cars but vehicle thieves also target the popular two-wheelers from brands like Hero Splendor, Honda Activa, TVS Pulsar, the Royal Enfield Classic 350, and the TVS Apache.

The Hindu report says that after completing 21 days of the investigation if a vehicle remains untraced, the report automatically gets transferred to the insurance company for claim settlement.

File a complaint with an FIR and submit a copy of all your vehicle documents to your insurer. Also, the police will issue a non-traceable certificate if in case the vehicle does not get traced after a certain time. You might also have to submit vehicle keys sometimes.
