Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has launched the ‘youngest urban SUV from Toyota’, the all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser today. The company has priced the Toyota Urban Cruiser at an introductory rate of ₹8.4 lakh.

The market had predicted the price to be around ₹8.5 lakh - ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Toyota Urban Cruiser is based on Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza and is the second Maruti Suzuki vehicle sold by Toyota Kirloskar Motor in India after Maruti’s Glanza.

The company opened pre-booking last month in August and today announced that the deliveries of the sub-compact SUV are slated to begin from mid-October. The company also aims to make Toyota Urban Cruiser present in at least 290 cities across the country by the end of 2020.

The sub-compact SUV will come with various features like a semi-digital instrument console, LED projector headlamps, steering mounted controls, smartphone-based navigation, rain-sensing wipers, electrochromic rear-view mirror, keyless entry, among others. The car comes with a seven-inch Smart Playcast system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, etc.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be available in three variants for the customers to choose from— Mid, High, and Premium. The new SUV is available in nine monotone and dual-tone colour choices— the options include Sunny White, Iconic Grey, Suave Silver, Rustic Brown, Spunky Blue, and Groovy Orange. And, in dual-tone— Rustic Brown with Sizzling Black roof, Groovy Orange with Sunny White roof, and Spunky Blue with Sizzling Black roof.

Toyota Urban Cruiser- Specifications

The Toyota Urban Cruiser comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to both manual and automatic transmissions. The automatic variants of the model are equipped with an advanced Li-Ion battery with an ISG- integrated starter generator, which would allow for features such as torque assist, regenerative braking, and idle start/stop.

The SUV segment is lucrative but has some pre-established players like Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300— which pose a tough competition to the brand.
