India’s e-commerce company Flipkart has partnered with Meru, an app-based ride-hailing operator to deliver groceries and essential items during the Coronavirus lockdown.

The cab operator will make doorstep deliveries across metros like Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and Hyderabad through a safe and sanitised supply chain, the company said in a statement.

“This partnership with Meru is a result of our teams exploring new, innovative ways to drive value for our ecosystem of sellers, brands, partners, and customers to ensure the safe and swift availability of grocery and essential goods. We have a very secure and safe supply chain where we follow standard operating procedures diligently,” said Flipkart’s CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy.

Meru will provide its ozone sanitised fleet to Flipkart. The company has also installed an ozone air purifier at dispatch hubs to encourage all driver-partners to sanitise their cabs.

Flipkart said the Meru driver-partners would be trained for a better understanding of its safety processes. Meru is also educating its drivers on various preventive measures like using alcohol-based sanitizers and wearing face masks to curb the spread of the virus.
