Some see outsourcing as a way for companies to cut down on expenses, others see it as a negative force that takes jobs away from the domestic economy. Either way, in today’s globalised world, outsourcing companies play an integral part of the supply chain.

This year’s Global Outsourcing 100 list by the International Association of Outsourcing Professional (IAOP) includes Accenture from Ireland, US-based Deloitte and Ukraine’s Miratech.

Judged on four categories — customer references, awards and certificates, programmes for innovation and corporate social responsibility — four Indian companies were also in the mix.

Here’s a quick look at who made the cut as one of the top 100 outsourcing companies in the world this year:

Noida-based HCL is the biggest name on the list. As of December 2019, company filings show that its annual consolidated revenue is at $9.7 billion.

Last week, the company’s main subsidiary, HCL Technologies, renewed a multi-year deal with the Finnish forest industry company UPM to migrate more of its services to cloud and set up new technology like chatbots and other applications of AI.

It also announced the launch of a new global delivery centre in the US on February 18. The centre will help HCL strengthen its foothold overseas by creating local jobs while also advancing the client’s digital capabilities.

Founded by Shiv Nadar, the company is currently operated by CEO C Vijayakumar.

Founded in 1975 by Lalit S Kanodia, the company was originally called Interface Software Resources. The name was later changed to Datamatics in 1992. It offers services across India, Australia, the UK, the US, Philippines and the UAE.

ITC Infotech

ITC Infotech is ITC’s wholly owned information technology subsidiary, which was established in 2000. ITC was originally known as the India Tobacco Company but chose to change that image as it diversified into other businesses.

ITC Infotech made headlines last year for undergoing a digital transformation of its own — equipping every employee with a bot. Launched in September, the initiative would help the company’s 8,500 employees to perform tasks as per their profile. According to the company, each bot will act as “a buddy”.

Providing services mainly to the airline and hospitality sector, ITC Infotech has an estimated annual revenue of $244 million. The Bengaluru-based company’s CEO is Sudip Singh.
