  • Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries announced a series of support to fight the increasing coronavirus outbreak in India.

In spite of the fact that a Coronavirus-led market meltdown is eating into his wealth, Mukesh Ambani and his company Reliance Industries announced a slew of measures to tackle the pandemic. Ambani today said that RIL will contribute ₹5 crore to Maharashtra CM’s relief fund.

The company also joined hands with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to set up a 100 bed centre at Seven Hills Hospital, Mumbai for patients who test positive.

“This first-of-its-kind-in-India centre is fully funded by Reliance Foundation and includes a negative pressure room that helps in preventing cross contamination and helps control infection. All beds are equipped with the required infrastructure, bio-medical equipment such as ventilators, pacemakers, dialysis machine and patient monitoring devices,” said the company statement.


RIL also built a fully-equipped isolation facility at Lodhivali at the deep end of Navi Mumbai and handed it over to the district authorities. Apart from this, Reliance Life Sciences said that it is importing additional test kits and consumables for effective testing.

The company that owns a grocery chain — Reliance Fresh — across India said the stores will remain open from 7 am to 11 pm wherever possible.

The move came after thousands of people trolled Indian billionaires for not providing any support to the Indian government. Chinese billionaire and Alibaba founder Jack Ma promised to provide emergency supplies to several countries but India.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra took to Twitter on March 22 to announce a series of measures, including production of ventilators at Mahindra's factories, to fight the Coronavirus outbreak. Mahindra said he would help small businesses and self-employed people, who are worst hit by this outbreak and would contribute 100 per cent of his salary to create a fund.

Industrialist Anil Agarwal on March 22 announced that Vedanta Group is setting up a ₹100 crore fund to support daily wage workers and employees. Vedanta will not cut salaries or layoff any staff, including temporary workers during this crisis period.
