West Bengal jute mills to remain closed during lockdown period
Kolkata, Mar 23 () Jute mills in West Bengal willremain closed till March 27 following the state governmentslockdown directive in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, IndianJute Mills Association sources said on Monday.

The IJMA has issued a notice that the mills will beclosed from 5 PM on Monday 5 PM to 6 AM on March 28, asadvised by the state labour department.

The period of closure may be modified as per orders ofthe central or the state government, the IJMA said.

About 2 lakh mill workers are engaged in producing4,500 tonnes of jute products valued at Rs 50 crore per day inthe state, jute veteran Sanjay Kajaria said.

The West Bengal government on Sunday issued anotification saying Kolkata and several areas across the statewill be put under lockdown from Monday 5 pm till March 27 inview of the coronavirus outbreak. Only essential services willbe allowed during the period, the notification said. BSMNN NN
