Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal said that they collected ₹1.5 crore in 17 hours to feed daily wagers. Goyal earlier announced the initiative through its subsidiary – Feeding India, seeking donations.

As the Coronavirus pandemic spreads, the government announced a complete lockdown across the nation. Millions of professionals are now working from home. However, there are lakhs of daily wagers who are now out of jobs as the country comes to a grinding halt.

“As part of this campaign, we will provide food support to the daily wager communities that are currently unable to support their family’s food requirement. We have made ration kits containing wheat flour or rice, two types of pulses and a bar of soap required for a family of 5 for one whole week,” Zomato said in its official blog.

The amount required to feed one family of 5 for a week is ₹500. Each kit will be delivered to various locations across 26 cities. According to the company’s calculations, it needs a total of ₹25 crore to get the job done.

Several others too have contributed for such causes. Paytm announced a ₹5 crore fund for innovations that are working towards helping during the Covid-19 crisis.

Mahindra group chairman Anand Mahindra too tweeted asking people to take care of the ration for at least 3 daily wage workers families

Earlier, Anand Mahindra had offered Mahindra resorts for quarantine purposes. “The Mahindra Foundation will create a fund to assist the hardest hit in our value chain (small businesses and the self-employed). We will encourage associates to voluntarily contribute to the Fund. I will contribute 100% of my salary to it and will add more over the next few months,” he wrote on Twitter.

On the other hand, Reliance Industries has set up the country’s first designated Covid-19 hospital.
