BSNL offers Wi-Fi hotspot starting at ₹10⁠— here’s a detailed list of plans and the process to activate it

State-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is working on bringing free and paid Wi-Fi services across the country. The service, dubbed as Wi-Fi Hotspot Zones will first begin in PM Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi.

BSNL will set-up its Wi-Fi infrastructure in these areas and it will be accessible by everyone.


The BSNL Wi-Fi hotspot zones will be set up in areas frequented by the public such as hospitals, universities, libraries, colleges, post offices, schools and other public places such as parks, tourist attractions and more.

BSNL Wi-Fi coupons pricing

The Wi-Fi will be free for a limited period of time and data once you connect to the network. Once you have exhausted the free data limit, you can purchase a Wi-Fi coupon to continue using high-speed data.

The coupons have been priced differently in urban and rural areas.

In rural areas, BSNL will offer three plans - ₹25, ₹45 and ₹150. The ₹25 plan will offer 2GB data with a validity of 7 days and the ₹150 plan will offer 28GB data with a validity of 28 days.

In urban areas, the telco will offer a whopping 17 plans, ranging from ₹10 to ₹1,999. The high-end ₹1,999 plan will offer 160GB data with a validity of 28 days.

How to connect to BSNL Wi-Fi Hotspots?

Connecting to a BSNL Wi-Fi hotspot is quite simple. To do this, you need to be in a Wi-Fi Hotspot Zone and have a smartphone.

  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your smartphone and search for new networks.
  • Click on BSNL Wi-Fi and tap on ‘Connect’.
  • You will then be redirected to a ‘welcome page’.
  • Enter your mobile number and click on ‘Get PIN’.
  • Now, enter the 6-digit PIN to connect to the BSNL Wi-Fi.
