With the advent of automation and digitisation, global multinationals — McKinsey, MasterCard, Amazon, and PwC — are aggressively hiring interns skilled in data-driven and business analytics so as to eventually hire them.

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta witnessed a 15% surge in the average stipend for summer internships offering analyst roles — placing all 57 students on the very first day.The average monthly stipend of graduates of Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) rose to ₹131,087, while the highest monthly stipend was recorded at ₹172,000.

The top employers at IIM, Calcutta include DE Shaw & Co, MasterCard, Amazon, PwC DIAC, Mondelez, McKinsey, Airtel and Play Games.

Internships provide an opportunity for students to implement the theoretical concepts they study. “The significance of summer internship is the presence of major recruiters in the business analytics domain, which essentially underlines our commitment to the industry in providing the right candidates in the analytics domain.”

“Introducing this programme has been an innovative initiative of three internationally reputed institutions of higher education - IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur and ISI,” said Professor Prashant Mishra, Dean of new initiatives & external relations cell.

IIM, Calcutta’s business analytics course has been ranked 14th globally, according to the QS Rankings in 2019.
