The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs 2023 report has outlined eight core employee skills that are the most sought-after by Indian organisations.

Cognitive skills – 24 percent

Reasoning, problem solving, planning and other cognitive skills are the most prized, with 24 percent of organisations considering these important.

Self-efficacy – 24 percent

The belief in one’s own abilities and capacity to execute a task or strategy is just as important as cognitive skills, with 24 percent of organisations considering it necessary.

Technology skills – 18 percent

The ability to use technology to perform a job or come up with new strategies is the third most sought-after skill by Indian organisations, with 18 percent of them deeming it important.

Management skills – 12 percent

The ability to manage and lead a team, devise and oversee the execution of strategies, communicate and motivate employees are among other core skills one needs to be successful.

Working with others – 12 percent

Collaborating with colleagues and other teams is as equally important as management skills – the ability to work with others scored 12 percent in the survey.

Engagement skills – 6 percent

Listening to employees, customers and colleagues is important to ensure proper execution of tasks and adequate customer satisfaction. Engagement skills also help build connections, which is important to ensure growth over the longer term.

Ethics – 3 percent

A strong code of conduct, dependability and resourcefulness are important to ensure success in the workplace, according to the report.

Physical abilities – 2 percent

Certain types of jobs, like firefighting and manufacturing, require physical abilities like strength, flexibility and stamina, among other things, to be able to do the job properly.
