According to job losses tracker 'Layoffs Tracker' 228 tech companies have laid off over 1.1 lakh employees globally in January 2023 alone. In India, Wipro (452), GoMechanic (770) and Swiggy (380) laid off the maximum number of employees this month. Here is a list of tech companies in India that have cut jobs in January 2023:

In January 2023, Bengaluru-based IT services giant Wipro cut 452 employees from its payroll citing their poor performance. A majority of the sacked staff were freshers in the field, as per reports.

Car after-sales service startup GoMechanic laid off 770 employees in January 2023. Healthcare provider MediBuddy cut 200 jobs while MohallaTech, which owns short video platform Moj and social media platform ShareChat, reportedly fired 20% of its employees in January. House of D2C brands UpScalio let go of 15% of its staff.

Food aggregator Swiggy laid off 380 employees this month. Quick-e-commerce platform Dunzo let go of 3% of its workforce or 90 employees. Harvest-to-retail startup Captain Fresh also laid off 120 people.

Cab aggregator Ola let go 200 of its employees on January 11. Electric mobility firm Bounce also reportedly laid off about 5% of its staff or over 40 employees.

Children going back to schools post the pandemic has thrown edtech firms off balance. Edtechs Lead (60 employees), Unacademy (40 job cuts), CampK12 (70% laid off) and UpGrad (60 job cuts) made steep cuts in their employee count this month.

Mobile marketing platform Inmobi let go of 70 employees in January 2023. Fintech firm Cashfree fired 100 employees while grocery and delivery startup Dealshare (100 layoffs) and cloud telephony firm Exotel (142 job cuts) also reduced their workforce.

Mumbai-based crypto platform CoinDCX let go of 80-100 employees in January 2023 alone. This comes amidst the free fall of crypto markets globally and the introduction of crypto tax in India, implemented in March last year.

Indian edtech firms Byju’s (2500) Vedantu (1109), Unacademy (1150) laid off a considerable chunk of their staff. Quick e-commerce platform Blinkit let go of 1600 employees. Ola additionally fired 2100 workers while unicorn Udaan let go of 1000 staff members.

Tech company Meta (11,025 layoffs) led the global tech layoffs while e-commerce platform Amazon (10,000 job cuts) closely followed suit. Post the takeover by Elon Musk, 9,250 staff were let go from Twitter. Tik-Tok owner Bytedance fired 6,750 members while computer maker HP sacked 6,000 employees.
