With Delhites complaining about not-so-chilly winter in January, the first spell on winter rain has dipped mercury to 10 degree this morning. As the typical winter in Delhi is back, the city and outskirts have been enveloped by fog. With many trains delayed, the temperature is expected to drop further. As per Skymet weather forecast, Delhi will witness 4 degree and 5 degree of coldness in next few days.

As per Skymet, scattered rain of varying intensity had started over most parts of the national capital by 4 am today. In fact, several places such as Palam, Safdarjung, Laxmi Nagar, Faridabad and Uttam Nagar are still witness to light rains. Other places such as AIIMS, R K Puram, Green Park, Malviya Nagar, Karol Bagh, Rajouri Garden, Indirapuram, and Noida have all recorded rain activity during the wee hours of the morning.

Now, we expect rains to take a break but clouding will persist throughout the city. Hence, with moisture lingering on in the atmosphere along with increase in mercury may lead to formation of convective clouds over Delhi NCR during the later afternoon hours and the city may witness one or two rain spell of rains once again. In fact, the possibility of one or two isolated spells of rain during the night also cannot be ruled out

In wake of this, maximum temperatures which were earlier settling well above normal, will drop significantly on Saturday. The ongoing rain activity can be attributed to the combined effect of several weather systems prevail over North India. An active Western Disturbance is moving across Jammu and Kashmir, while its induced a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana region. These weather systems are likely to clear away the region by Sunday but clouding will persist. By Monday, icy cold northwesterly winds will once again start blowing over northern plains including Delhi-NCR. With this, we can then expect steep drop in night temperatures as well. By early next week, winter chill will grip the most of northern plains. During this time, mercury is likely to settle around or below 5°C.
