Deliveroo is reportedly planning to launch in India
Deliveroo is preparing to launch in India, according to a report in The Times of India published on Wednesday.
The fast-growing UK food delivery startup - now valued at over $2 billion (£1.48 billion) - is looking to hire a new team and a country head in India, according to two sources cited by The Times of India.
"They are in the midst of getting on board a person who will spearhead the launch in India along with building a team," one of the sources reportedly said. "After securing new funding, expanding into new geographies was on the cards for them."
Deliveroo declined to comment.
Founded by Will Shu and Greg Orlowski in 2013, Deliveroo has raised almost $1 billion (£740 million) from investors around the world. Today it operates in over 200 cities across 13 countries but it's yet to expand into several large markets including India, China, and the US.
India is home to around 1.3 billion people and it's home to some of the most populated cities on the planet.
Uber takeaway service UberEats already operates in India, as do Zomato and Swiggy, according to The Times of India.
