CBSE Class 10, 12 board exams 2021 to begin from May 4 — here are the details

Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, announced that CBSE board examinations for Class X and XII will be held from May 4 to June 10 in 2021.

Earlier, CBSE used to release date sheets in November and hold the board exams for Class 10 and Class 12 in February. But given the current pandemic situation, the Ministry of Education has had to switch gears.

Nishank said the practical exam for board students will begin from March 1 and the final result will be announced by July 15.


Minutes after the Education Minister announced the exam date, the CBSE website’s servers were unreachable — presumably because of the surge in people trying gain access to the new date sheet.

The website was not restored at the time of writing this article.


The education minister had earlier clarified that the board examinations will not take place in the month of February this time. He also ruled out the possibility of the exams being conducted online by saying that the exam will be held offline in adherence to Covid-19 protocols.

The board exam this time will have 33% internal choice as well and 30% of the syllabus has been reduced by the authorities.

How to check CBSE board examinations date sheet?

After the education minister’s announcement, the date sheet will be available at the CBSE’s official website. The date sheet for Class 10 and Class 12 exams will be uploaded separately with dates and important instructions.

• Visit the official website — CBSE.nic.in.
• Under the ‘Recent Announcements’ section on the website, select the class.
• Download CBSE exam date sheet 2021.

Nishank, while speaking to ANI on Wednesday, said the CBSE 2021 exam dates have been decided after consultations with parents, teachers and students.

“During these difficulties, we have done a lot of work online, but our goal is to reach the last student. The idea is to conduct CBSE 2021 examinations in the same manner as examinations are conducted earlier, we are not considering conducting exams online,” he added.
