Student enrollment in higher education

A new report by Deloitte named as Annual Status of Higher Education (ASHE), which came out in October 2021, reveals that the student enrollment in higher education in India in 2021 is 34.3 million, with 50.4 percent male and 49.6 percent female enrollments.

Rajasthan

Rajasthan tops the list with 89 universities, which is the highest number of universities in a state in India, and 3,380 colleges.

Uttar Pradesh

The state has a total number of 81 universities including some renowned universities like Banaras Hindu university, Aligarh Muslim university and many more and also has 7,788 colleges.

Gujarat

Gujarat is home to 76 universities, out of which 37 state private universities, and 2,275 colleges with a total estimated enrollment of around 1.2 million.

Karnataka

Karnataka, whose total gross enrollment ratio is 32, is home to 69 universities, 4,047 colleges and 1690 standalone institutes.

Madhya Pradesh

With 69.3 percent literacy rate, Madhya Pradesh is home to 66 universities, 2,411 colleges and 379 standalone institutions.

Maharashtra

The state with 0.97 million as total estimated enrollment, comprises 65 universities, 4,494 colleges and 2,393 standalone institutions.

Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu, which has a literacy rate of 80 percent, has 59 universities, 2,466 colleges and 918 standalone institutions.

Haryana

The state is home to 53 universities, out of which 23 are state private universities and 18 are public universities. It is also home to 1,087 colleges and 252 standalone institutions.

West Bengal

With 19.9 as gross enrolment ratio, West Bengal is home to 47 universities, 1,411 colleges and 477 standalone institutions.

Andhra Pradesh

The state with 41 universities, 2,750 colleges and 843 standalone institutions has 0.49 million in total estimated enrollment.
