12 Indians are on the jury for the world’s biggest ad festival - Cannes Lions

​The Cannes Lions Festival

Regarded as the world’s biggest ad festival, Cannes Lions is a five-day global event held annually in Cannes, France. This year, it will be held between June 19-23.

​The 2023 Jury​

On April 6, Cannes Lions released the list of 290 experts, from 46 markets, who make up this year’s jury. Of these, 12 are Indians. Here are their details:

​Farishte Irani​

A member of this year’s Print and Publishing jury panel, Farishte Irani is the group head-copy at Dentsu Creative, India. Winner of the Copywriter of the Year award at the 2022 Cannes, Irani is an English literature graduate who has worked on brands like Mercedes-Benz India.

​Aalap Desai​

Desai is the chief creative officer at Dentsu Creative West and Dentsu Creative Experience, India. He’s part of the Radio and Audio Lions jury panel this year. Desai’s 15-year-long work experience includes stints with Ogilvy & Mather, Leo Burnett, JWT, Hotstar, etc.

​Sukesh Nayak

Nayak, who’s part of the Creative Data Lions jury panel, is the chief creative officer at Ogilvy. He graduated from Mumbai’s St. Xavier’s College with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He joined Ogilvy in 2000. His clients include Tata Sky, Asian Paints, Bajaj, JSW Steel, Amazon and Google.

​Garima Khandelwal​

The chief creative officer at Mullen Lowe Lintas Group, India, Khandelwal is a part of the jury panel for Direct Lions this year. Khandelwal, who won the Cannes Bronze in Direct Lions in 2007, has over two decades of experience in the industry. She’s an alumna of the Apeejay Institute of Design.

​Valerie Pinto​

Valerie Pinto made it to the jury panel for PR Lions. Pinto is the CEO at Weber Shandwick India. Prior to joining Weber Shandwick in 2015, she worked with Perfect Relations for 15 years and UTV for a year.

​PG Aditya

The co-founder and chief creative officer of Talented, India, PG Aditya is part of the Social and Influencer panel. An alumnus of MICA, Ahmedabad, Aditya worked with Dentsu Webchutney before launching Talented in 2022. Talented recently worked on a Women’s Day campaign for the jewellery brand Tanishq.

​Swati Bhattacharya

The chief creative officer (CCO) at FCB Ulka, India, Bhattacharya is part of the Experience Track panel. Bhattacharya has over 25 years of experience. In 2016, she became India’s first woman CCO in India when she joined FCB Ulka.

​Ahmed Aftab Naqvi​

The global CEO and co-founder of Gozoop India, Naqvi is a first-generation entrepreneur who started Gozoop from a small garage in Mumbai in 2008. Over the years, Gozoop India has added the likes of Taj Hotels, Dell, Tim Hortons, British Council, Air India, Ola, Bisleri, etc. to its clientele. He’s part of the Creative Commerce jury panel.

​Rajdeepak Das

The CEO and chief creative officer at Leo Burnett, India, Das joins the jury panel of Sustainable Development Goals. Das, who has been a part of the advertising world for 17 years, has won multiple Cannes Lions awards, including the Cannes Glass Lion Grand Prix in 2015.

​Hemant Shringy​

Hemant Shringy is the chief creative officer at BBDO, India and a member of the Health Track jury. In an advertising career spanning 15 years, Shringy has won numerous awards and worked on popular campaigns, like Ariel’s #ShareTheLoad.

​Aditya Kanthy

Aditya Kanthy is part of the Strategy Track jury panel this year. He’s the CEO and managing director at DDB Mudra Group, India — where he’s worked for over two decades. Kanthy is an alumnus of St Stephen’s College in Delhi and MICA, Ahmedabad.

Josy Paul​

The chairperson and chief creative officer at BBDO India, Paul is on the jury for Creative Strategy. Paul has previously been on the jury of D&AD, Clio, London International, and Spikes Asia. His work on Gillette's 'Women Against Lazy Stubble' campaign won the Silver Cannes Lion in 2010.
