Prabhas of Baahubali fame will essay the lead role of Lord Ram in the film. However, his character is called Raghav in the film, which is another name for Ram. As per Variety, Raut changed the name because “calling the lead character Ram makes him automatically divine in the eyes of the audience, whereas naming him Raghav makes him human and approachable.”
Sanon, who has delivered hits like Mimi and Bhediya recently, will play the role of Sita in the movie. Again, her character is called Janaki (another name for Sita) in the film. This is the first time that Sanon and Prabhas are sharing screen space.
The film’s prime antagonist is played by Saif Ali Khan. He’s named Lankesh and not Raavan in the film. Khan is no stranger to playing the villain, having also played the antagonist in Raut’s previous period drama, Tanhaji. Of course, one of Khan’s most memorable characters in a negative role remains the crafty Langda Tyagi from Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara (adapted from Shakespeare’s Othello).
Sunny Singh will essay the role of Ram’s loyal brother Lakshman in the film. To date, Singh has mostly starred in romantic comedies like Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Ujda Chaman, and others. It’ll be interesting to see how the actor takes on a drama like Adipurush.
Nage will play the role of Lord Hanuman in the film. Like Khan, Nage also worked with director Raut in Tanhaji. Apart from Tanhaji, Nage’s film credits include action dramas like Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobara! and Satyameva Jayate, among others.
The film also stars Sonal Chauhan, who is known for her work in the Telugu film industry. However, it’s not yet clear what character she’s playing in the film. Apart from Chauhan, Vatsal Sheth, who first shot to fame with the TV show Just Mohabbat, is also part of the project and plays the role of Indrajeet in the film. Indrajeet is another name for Meghnada, Raavan’s son and the crown prince of Lanka.
