  • Apple TV+'s "Masters of the Air" follows the 100th Bomb Group during World War II.
  • It's based on real pilots and their missions, as told in Donald L. Miller's book of the same name.

Apple TV+'s "Masters of the Air" follows the pilots and navigators in the 100th Bomb Group on their missions in Europe throughout World War II.

The unit was nicknamed the "Bloody Hundredth" because of how many pilots were killed in action, meaning there's plenty of action, drama, and tragedy waiting to unfold in the show.

Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the show is based on Donald L. Miller's book: "Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany."

The "Masters of the Air" cast are all playing real airmen who flew in the 100th Bomb Group, making it a spiritual sequel to other critically acclaimed historical war dramas like "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific.

Here's who's in "Masters of the Air."

"Elvis" star Austin Butler leads the series as Major Gale Cleven, one of the first pilots in the 100th Bomb Group. He has a close friendship with Major John Egan, played by Callum Turner.

Butler is also best known for playing Tex Watson in Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," and he'll also appear in "Dune: Part Two" as villain Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Callum Turner

Turner recently worked with director George Clooney on 2023's "The Boys in the Boat," while "Harry Potter" fans will recognize him as Theseus Scamander in the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise.
