Chrissy Teigen publicly apologized to Courtney Stodden on Wednesday for past cyberbullying, and the former reality-TV star accepted it, but noted that they've never heard from Teigen "in private."

"Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bulls--- in front of the entire world," Teigen began her Twitter thread. "I'm mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention seeking troll."

She said that she was "ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior" but that it was "nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel."

Stodden, who is nonbinary, opened up in a new interview with The Daily Beast's Marlow Stern about their past experiences with online harassment by the media and by other celebrities.

Stodden had previously spoken about Teigen's online treatment of them. In March, they made a video calling Teigen "hypocritical" for saying she'd quit Twitter temporarily because the app breeds negativity. Stodden elaborated in their interview with The Daily Beast.

"She wouldn't just publicly tweet about wanting me to take 'a dirt nap' but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself," Stodden said. "Things like, 'I can't wait for you to die.'"

Stodden first became tabloid fodder in 2011, when, at 16, they married the 51-year-old actor Doug Hutchison. Teigen, now 35, was about 26 when she sent the DMs to Stodden, they said.

"I have worked so hard to give you guys joy and be beloved and the feeling of letting you down is nearly unbearable, truly," Teigen tweeted on Wednesday. "These were not my only mistakes and surely won't be my last as hard as I try but god I will try!!"

Teigen continued: "I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I'm so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am."

Teigen ended the thread with an apology to her 13.6 million followers.

"And I am so sorry I let you guys down," Teigen said. "I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, 1 year ago, 6 months ago."

Stodden uploaded an Instagram post saying they never heard from Teigen 'or her camp in private'

The former reality star spoke out after Teigen's public apology by releasing a screenshot, presumably from Stodden's Twitter account, saying they're blocked by the cookbook author on the platform.

"I accept her apology and forgive her. But the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private," Stodden wrote in the caption. "In fact, she blocked me on Twitter."

They continued: "All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realizing her 'wokeness' is a broken record."

Representatives for Teigen and Stodden did not immediately return Insider's requests for comment on The Daily Beast's report.
