The INOX Cinema Food Report 2022
Leading multiplex chain INOX Leisure released its first ever ‘Cinema Food Report’, analysing the food consumption of Indian moviegoers across their 167 cinemas in 74 cities. Here are the results:

Into the space with popcorn
INOX sold 863 metric tonnes of popcorn in 2022. If all these popcorn tubs are stacked together, then INOX claims it would cover enough distance to reach outer space - 1032 kilometres to be precise.

Samosas aren’t just for the streets
One of the most loved Indian street foods, samosa is a favourite even in the cinemas. In 2022, INOX sold 19.38 lakh samosas - enough to cover a distance of 197 kilometres. Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, together, consumed 10.7 percent of the total samosas sold.

Bangalore says ‘Let’s Nacho’
Bangalore accounted for 11.25 percent of the total nachos sold across INOX in India. Overall, INOX claims it sold enough nachos to equal 2.5 Boeing 737-800 aircrafts in weight.

Indians ‘donut’ miss their desserts
Donuts and ice-creams were the most popular desserts amongst INOX moviegoers in 2022. While 75 percent of the total donuts sold were consumed by Chennai, Kolkata and Madurai jointly consumed 26 percent of the total ice-creams sold at INOX across India.

Coke, coffee, tea - what Indians drank at the cinemas
38.15 lakh litres of coke and 20.28 lakh cups of tea and coffee were consumed at INOX in 2022. Kolkata consumed the most coke - 3.4 lakh litres of coke to be precise. But overall, coffee was consumed 4.5 times more than tea.

Sandwiches take the cake!
Sandwiches beat burgers and pizzas as the most consumed item, with over 5 lakh sandwiches sold by INOX. Madurai and Salem consumed more sandwiches than Lucknow, Gurgaon, Pune and Delhi. Meanwhile, nearly 2.8 lakh burgers and 1.7 lakh pizzas were sold across India.

Delhi does not eat the most momos…at the movies, at least
Delhi consumed over 79,000 pieces of momos. But it still didn’t beat Kolkata, which consumed 2.21 lakh pieces of momos this year. Additionally, across INOX, nearly 11 lakh pieces of dimsums and over 40,000 dishes of noodles and fried rice were ordered this year.

Going digital at the movies
INOX processed 29 digital F&B transactions every minute of the year. It also observed that most orders from Mumbai were placed between 10 to 11 pm, while Kolkata placed maximum orders between 7 to 8 pm.
